battery not charging on spv m5000

I have a spv m5000 also nkown as the 02 xda exec. When I plug it into charge the orange light does not turn on. It boots up but then dies straight away when it gets to the home screen. I was thinking of buying a cradle charger and charging externaly. could it be the battery? Has anyone had this prblem before? thanks

New battery should do the job, does it kick it for a second when you plug in to charge? You could get a new battery online for less the 20 euro
