Flakey Nails

Has anyone ever successfully gotten flakey weak nails to look healthy? Mine have been flakey for ever and I'm starting to dispair of ever having nice healthy looking hands. It's like a finger-specific leprosy! I'm a bit addicted to nail varnish which might not help but it hides the flakey/cracked nasty sight of them, I'd try work on my OCD need to paint my nails every few days if I thought leaving them bare would help. I've used a Sally Hansen nail strengthener in the past, which did work but looked very thick and gloopy on my nails. Has anyone had any luck with a vitamin supplement for healthy nails?

    Thanks a mill :)

Brazil Nuts worked because they contain both Vitamin A and Protein which are essential for healthy nails and hair.

OP I suggest you getting more Vitamin A into your diet

Stuff like the following contains a lot of it:
    liver
    sweet potatoes
    carrots
    mangoes
    spinach
    cantaloupe
    dried apricots
    milk
    egg yolks
    mozzarella cheese

I dunno if you're a veggie but if not you probably are getting enough protein.

Not a veggie, I'm definitely ok for protein :) I'll try get more foods with Vit A into my diet, sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach and eggs all make me very happy indeed so it shouldn't be too hard.

thanks a mill for the advice!

My friend had the same problem and she swears by a supplement called Imedeen, I think you can get it in Boots.

I used to have terrible nails, really flakey. I went on a course of Perfectil, it's a supplement for hair, skin and nails. I can't remember if it was expensive, you can pick it up in most chemists. Just like a vitamin supplement, take one a day. I'd say this stuff would be a good kick-start for you, but if you want to avoid the supplement route, then try to eat more of the foods listed above - you'll hopefully see some improvement in your nails.
