Have a Dell 1525 Inspiron and there is a dark shade over half of the screen, running from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. The silver casing around the screen came loose a few months ago and I got it temporarily fixed (didnt want to spend the €250 I was quoted by Dell and a computer repair firm for doing the job if the laptop was shagged).

Anyone with an explanation as to why this problem exists and if it is easily fixed? Thanks.

Sound like ya need a new laptop screen. Easily fixed. Just replace the screen. IT's an easier job than you think.
