i know the album has been out for almost a year now, but this album gets better with each listen. lucky enough to catch these guys live last year. i really love their sound. i think its one of the most important albums to come out in a while. they are doing something different that can make a difference in music....in my opinion anyway.

I really disagree. Quite liked them at the start but the album wears thin very quickly and having seen them live a number of times at this stage I really think that compared to other bands on the circuit at the moment their live show is left wanting.

Note: Over-the-top lights and pushing up the volume does not make your show better.

And I haven't even started on the band themselves.....

Although I will admit that Gone Daddy Gone and Geraldine are decent songs.

ive only seen them live one time. they were up and coming and only played 5 songs, so i cant really formulate an opinion on their live act. i think they are up there with vampire weekend and mgmt for great refreshing first albums with some new sounds

i think the drummer adds to the new kind of sound. i dont think any professional drummer is bad. maybe you just dont like their style. i dont like meg white or the white stripes. they are talented, just not to my liking i like the raconteurs though

I just bought this album last week, I really like it. The accent is awesome, and the songs are beautiful. Hope to hear more from them...

I dunno, I tired of the *dum dum dum tish* (she's gone, she's gone...)beat in glasvegas fairly quickly. Meg white plays like a 5 year old *dum crash dum crash dum crash*. I'm not saying that they have to be technically flash, but you can only do so much hitting a tom and a snare drum all the time (glasvegas). Each to their own though..

My name is geraldine... is a good song though..

Nah she is a terrible drummer. I don't think there's many big bands out there who have drummers that only started playing in their 30's. She just doesn't have great natural rhythm at all.

There's no way she'd be able to play in another band if Glasvegas split up.

Saw them live last year, they were awful.
Good album though, but it does have its bad moments- no can can claim with a straight face 'stabbed' is a good song :D

they're meh, ok at best, hardly different - just buy a Jesus and Mary Chain record instead.

When I first heard them, I thought I was on to a winner:

They're Scottish - to me, there's something in the water over there that leads to genius bands/musicians
Their sound - Jesus & Mary Chain meets Phil Spector meets shoegazing... eh, that's pretty much my taste in a nutshell

In actual fact though, they appear a bit of a one-trick pony. Watered down Mary Chain wears thin pretty quickly. I take back all my gushing praise from a few months ago...

Terrible band, terrible name, terrible sound, terrible songs. they've a bit of A Jesus and Mary Chaim thing going on, but the whole package just doesnt deliver.

Im lucky enough to see them later this year, playing before u2.Although I dont know them well, they seem to be pretty good especially that song daddy gone or whatever it is.The guys voice is chilling(in a good way) if that makes sense.Something about their sound is great

I can...I liked the minimilism, the haunting piano, the introverted, soliloquy style vocal.
I'm really liking their album at the moment, but I'm not trying to claim they are going to change music, or that they are overtly original or anything...

when i say they can change music, its not because they are amazing or literally changed the sound of music. its more their simplicity that i like. its all about timing, and i think they came on the scene just at the right time. simple bands/albums always stand the test of time which is what i look for in bands/albums.

im all about criticism, but i think a lot of the "critics" in here are being a little harsh. if you are in bands or have done it before, maybe you can talk. but cmon now...just flat out saying bands suck??? i mean, maybe you dont like them, which is fine. but dont say they suck because your just making yourselves look stupid and uneducated. every band has influences from some other band. its only natural. even the beatles were influenced...it comes with the territory. maybe the drummer is as good as moon, but thats the style she plays to fit the sound of the band? maybe she isnt that great, but i think it works with the sound. the true test will come from their sophomore album. until then i will continue to say its one of the better debut albums to come out in 2008.

Tribesman44, are your ears painted on. And if you think this is harsh, its not. The album is so astonishingly and toe-curlingly poor that i'm still waiting for someone to reveal the punchline. Appalling lyrics and embarrassing titles aside eg "Flowers & Football Tops", "Stabbed"; the music is an unappetising morass of bland, plodding tuneless indie rock with some sub Jesus & Mary Chain style feedback/drone lumped on top. The only reason i didnt destroy the album was due to the pleasant enough, but still fairly middling single "Geraldine", but rest assured, this is one of the most overhyped, unoriginal and unpleasant "musical" offerings you'll have the misfortune to hear in recent times.

In all fairness the album has more than one song that could be described as middling,

Yes the album isn't a cracker, there are a few poor songs on it, but "it's my own cheating heart" and "daddy's gone" are very powerfull and emotional songs,

I really like the album for those 2 and the 1 you mention alone.

Really liked their debut album but Uncut magazine which I usually trust has given the new album 1 star out of 5 and called it 'excruciating'.

They played Sunderland last week and were quality.

I took a gamble and ordered it, hopefully it will come in the post today!
