    Hi,

I need to know how to block a website from my work laptop. I work in an office and have my laptop plugged in most of the day unless i am out of the office and need to bring it with me. IS there anyway i can block a website or two on my laptop without having to go on the office server as i would not know what to do. Its the usual websites i wanna block(facebook etc) as i am getting no work done when i am in the office. And if you could explain in laymans terms it woujld be appreciated.

    Cheers

go to the run box, type "notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"

Enter the following somewhere in the file:
    127.0.0.1 facebook.com
    127.0.0.1 bebo.com
    127.0.0.1 boards.ie

    Then save and exit.

    The gaps are tabs

Get the picture? One line for each site.

/edit: oh it'l probably require administrator privileges.

    As Sean_K said.

You can also press the 'Windows key' and R at the same time.

Highlight with your mouse the following text:

    notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    Copy it: (Ctrl + C)

Open a Run window (Windows key + R)

    Paste it: (Ctrl + V)

    notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    ..into that window.

Follow Sean_K's post further up the thread.

    Save and close.

Try and think about the task you're being asked to do, not the tech aspect of it, you're basically just editing a text file, that's all.
