breaking red light

    cops stopped me the other night, one of them says i went thru a red light. he said i'd get a 50 euro fine in the post and no penalty points. Any one shed any light on this...

    Nope, it's two penalty points for "Failure to obey traffic lights". You're obliged to stop on amber unless it's unsafe to do so.

    Other odd thing about what the OP says, is that the fine is 80 euro, not 50.

    The OP said the Guard said it was €50 and no points, the Garda mustn't have heard about them new penalty points:D

    Because it's not just for breaking a red. You can get it for crossing a yellow light if you had time to stop.

    Sounds like the guard just made a mistake. I'm sure he'll still follow up on it tho, and you'll get the two points and the fine (i think it's €80 like the others said, but not 100%)
