My sister is going travelling in a few months and she is going to give me her car while away. I am a student in the UK and was planning on insuring myself as a named driver on her policy. Will it be ok to use our home address as "where the car is generally kept" even though i will be using it in the UK. Or would you be supposed to tell the Insurance company that it will be kept in the UK. Do irish insurance companies insure you if you keep the car at a UK address. dont want the hassle of registering in the UK etc!

Unless you have a full licence, you wont be allowed to drive outside of the republic with is as your not licenced outside of ireland.

But then you'd have 2 problems, no licence or insurance.

I assume you have a full licence. If so then you'll be fine. You're allowed to drive in other countries but only temporarily, think it's 30 days. If over the 30 day period you need to let them know that you'll be staying in another country longer. That's how my insurance works anyhow, I would presume that the other insurers have a similar policy condition. You'll more than likely need to tell them the truth tbh. If you don't there's always the chance it'll come back to bite you. Some insurers are v bad at claims and in these conditions are only clamping down more and trying to get away with any claims they can.... Though if you don't claim there won't be a problem!

Although your not expecting to make a claim (who does) don't take a risk!!
