    Toyota MR2, HondaS2000, Lotus Elise.

Would spend between 8 and 10k. How are they, technically, mechanically speaking. How do owners feel about their car i.e. twitchy in the rain

cousin had an elise and it was a great car! theyre generally solid and seeing that it was a 1.8 it was easy enough on the juice aswell.

the s2000 id imagine is great on the fuel having the coolest of the vtecs and all. but fairly rare car in ireland so finding parts might be hard enough etc.

my choice would be the elise. very fast, very cool and all that. as much as i would love an s2000, i think its a bit of a girls car.

Honda by a mile. The Elise is a good track/weekend car, but I'd imagine it could be uncomfortable as a daily driver as they are very basic inside.

+1 ...but an Irish S2000, not a jap import.
It will make it much easier to insure your car in the insurance marketplace.

If it were me it would have to be an Irish (or UK) S2000 with a hardtop. The Elise and MR2 would just be too cramped to live with as a day-to-day car. I'd guess that an Elise will be too pricey for your budget as they hold their value very well. The only major caveat is that the S2000 has the potential to be twitchy in the rain. Lot of power, no traction or stability control and apparently slightly vague steering.

Edit: I'll add if the car didn't need to be a comfortable day-to-day car in traffic then I'd be very tempted by an Elise.

    +1 Honda

The elise is great, handles superbly but its hugely overpriced for what it is - a jumped up kit car. Thats not meant as a criticism its brilliant but doesnt compete with the Honda in terms of usability, refinement etc. Plus, the Honda has that glorious engine :D

Don't think the S2000 is great on fuel atal tbh. You'd be doing well to see 30mpg from it at best. It is a 2 litre vtec after all.;)

I think if the OP was really concerned about fuel he would not be considering any of these type of cars.
