Listening to the radio on the bike

I know there is another post around about mp3 players and headphones but this one is different so I thought I'd start a new thread.

I am (kinda) planning a week long run some time in June. I would love to be able to listen to the radio in the morning as I cycle. I dont want to use ear or headphones as I reckon that would be crazy dangerous.

I have a tiny little mp3/radio device that presents a 3mm jack out. I am wondering could I bolt a passive speaker onto my handlebars and connect my player to that via a cable from the audio out jack? Has anyone done anything similar or can you suggest alternative solutions ?

    Many thanks in advance
