Hi everyone, I am thinking of taking a trip either up the North or to the UK to get myself a new car, looking at a Golf 2004(ish) with a budget of €5000+vrt. just a few of questions.

    1) which is best up the North or in the UK
    2) is there much difference in the Price & Spec ?
    3) is the Dealer or Private best for haggeling down ?
    4) how easy is it to do it in one trip

and finally is there anyone that does this often?

Thanks for all the help guys.

    Regards
    PP

Whats your total budget? No point in having a budget minus the VRT. And there are great deals to be had in the republic so you'd want to be sure what you were buying is worth the hassle.

    1) You'll have a much bigger choice in England.
    2) Cars in the UK are often higher spec than here.
    3) There are plenty of dodgy garages in England so be on the ball.
    4) You can do it easily in one trip but you'd be best to pick a handful of cars in one general area and view them over a day or two. Get a one-way flight to where you're going (preferably midweek) and if you buy a car, you can book one-way to take it back on the ferry.

BTW the VRT on a 04 1.6 Golf is around €3000. Is it worth it when you include your travel, fuel and lodge costs?
