Two Triathlons in Two Weeks - Training, Tapering, Recovery?

    Hi all,

It's one week to go before my first tri - the Fingal Sprint in Blanchardstown, which I'm really looking forward to! I've also entered Tri-Athy, on the 30th of May. With just a couple of weeks between the two, what would your thoughts be regarding how best to prepare for Fingal, recover from it and get ready for TriAthy, which I suppose I view as my main race.

My proposed plans are as follows:

Train normally until Thursday this week, complete rest on Friday with short bike/run on Saturday. Sunday is race day.

Monday/Tuesday - recovery workout, gentle swim and run. Normal training resumed until Thursday before Saturday race, where I'll rest completely and then some quick, sharpish training on Friday.

    Anybody any adjustments/suggestions to make?

    Tnx

Your plan seems pretty reasonable I'd have said. Personally I wouldn't do any big runs/cycles the weekend in the middle, and maybe ease down the training a little earlier before Athy.

Despite it 'only' being a sprint IMHO you should defo not do anything on Sat if race day is Sun - I would look to finish with a light swim on Thur/Friday and totally rest Sat. The following week rest Mon and Tue and look to do the same as the previous week.

Disagree completely and so would many top level coaches.

The day before, for most people, should not be complete rest. 20 minutes in the water (assuming competent swimmer), and 10 fast minutes on teh bike and 5 fast minutes on the run. Really sharpens the body and helps prevent staleness

Are they 1 after the other or spread out tunney? I assume one after the other.

Also, what's your recommendation for the 2 weeks between the races? I have a similar situation between Ballina and Carna. Cheers.

    swim is seperate.

the bike run would be a brick.

As for specifics for yourself - I'm afraid I don't have the information to comment. I don't know your level of fitness, background, goals etc etc.

Thanks, Tunney. What kind of intensity would you suggest for the brick?

*Personally* after a good warm up 5-10 minutes mod hard to hard, but interval style.

You can do something Friday - you just haven't planned it right.

Eating? nothing differently. Unless you are going IM distance (or maybe HIM) you've all the stores you need.
