Mac Mini plugging in to a Beko LCD tv via vga but getting "No signal" error?

I am plugging a mac mini into a Beko 32 LCD TV but am having trouble getting a signal when I change to "PC" mode on the TV.

I can swap the same cable into a standard PC monitor and I get the display up fine so I don't think the cable has any problems.

Also, when I boot up the mac the TV screen says "Out of range" for a while then goes back to "No Signal".

Now the really odd thing is that the mac is able to identify the TV correctly as Beko-vjaz1 so they can talk to eachother. I also have tried lots of display resolutions including 1280x720 50 Hertz (PAL) which is the native resolution as far as I am aware.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

oddly plugging a Windows laptop into the TV works fine. So it looks like an issue with the Mac + DVI to VGA converter + VGA cable issue.

Perhaps the signal is being weakened in the converter?

    TRY 720P hd RES ,or
1024x768 res, set MAC mini graphics card in the mac,to 60megahertz .most lcd tvs expect 60mhz,unless its specificied in the tv manual, for 50mhz from dvi/vga.
    or 720x576,thats standard dvd res.
i find 60mhz graphics card refresh rate ideal for connecting to HDTV,S.
my samsung hdtv, ony accepts 1080i at 60mhz, thats the max refresh rate on my tv.

I also have a similar problem. Only happens to me if I turn on the mini or bring it out of sleep before turning on the TV. If the TV is on first then there is never a problem. From reading around various forums it seems to me that mini is losing the EDID data and unable to get a signal as the TV is off. There is a device that can help, but for that money I think it's easier to make sure the TV is always on first.
