hey im on ubuntu 8.10 ..im a bit behind i know but that doesnt matter TOO much i dont think

    basically

i have an external 500 gig Freecom hard drive and if i delete something off the drive its stopped registering that its been deleted even if i refresh or Reboot

i encountered this on my 1 and 4 and 8 gig USB drives ..and i saved the stuff ..formatted the usb sticks and put them all on again
but i cant/wont do this on the freecom cuz theres alot of stuff needed

what do YOU think is the problem here

i know if i stick the drive in a windows box it will register as being deleted at least im 99% sure

I find your post difficult to understand. You're trying to delete files but they won't delete?

If that's what it is, he might not have permission to delete 'em. 9/10 it's usually something loike that. Can happen if the drive is mounting as Read only for some reason.

If the Freecom is NTFS formatted, it could be because he didn't properly unmount the device. (but then, wouldn't it give a 'failed to mount' error and just refuse to do it?).

Try manually mounting/unmounting the device OP. Be sure to make in Read/Write.

have you emptied your trash folder before removing the device, the deleted items usually go into a folder .trash which is hidden in linux but can be seen by a windows machine
