Just had the ipod on shuffle this morning and the old cracker by Genesis came on.....struck me that this song quite aptly describes the situation in this country quite nicely

lyrics (for those that don't have the song)

^^^ because of above editing to remove the lyrics (that are available on about a million other websites!!), look here if you don't know the song

Does Ireland not have a fair usage policy when publishing lyrics?

p.s. I'm referring to a sample of the lyrics as opposed to the entire song.

You haven't a clue mate - Selling England by the Pound, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Trick of the Tail - all classics you're seriously missing out

If that's the video, Spitting Image is one thing that I miss from the Eighties.

Yeah...but once Gabriel left the band both he and they lost the plot completely.....

I agree that Genesis lost something without his creative input but they still produced some decent stuff after he left

As for Gabriel - I love most of his solo stuff - the first 4 albums were all classics

Abacab (1981) was superb, unique, and memorable in so many ways. Trick of the Tail opened up a whole world to me when I first heard it.

Although definitely Peter Gabriel was, and is, a far more admirable and deeper guy than Collins, the walking commercial. Gabriel's concerts are also far more creative; his 1994 concert in the Point when Sinéad O Connor came on and sang Don't Give Up with him was superb. And his RealWorld studio has brought singers like Iarla Ó Lionáird to a wider audience. Collins has done nothing like that. And Gabriel's songs from Biko to Solsbury Hill to Digging in the Dirt have much more character and individuality than Collins whose last album was horrendous pop tripe. Awful, awful stuff altogether.

Anybody remember Genesis in the National Stadium in 1971 when they were booed off the stage as Gabriel came on dressed as a fox and the sound was atrocious? They never came back!

Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds.

But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.

BTW, if you get a chance, check out the Music Box, tribute to Genesis, stunning.

I was there (Genesis were supporting Lindesfarne), don't remember the sound being bad nor the booing. Phil Collins did a Bing Crosby impersonation though!:pac:

Bizarre... this song came into my head this morning, and I didn't realise I even knew the words it's been so long since I heard it.

Looks like I saved a couple of hundred quid on an iPod.

I prefer the Disturbed version of this song. I have a great dislike for Phil Collins.
