I found these on youtube and i have to say that they are brilliant videos. Had to put them up here. especially the one on the congo. They're not the normal videos that you'll find on youtube. There is old archive footage from the Congo, Lebanon, Somalia and East Timor.

No they are not mine btw:)

Yes there is one but one dedicated to the Irish Defence Forces. The other is more of a general military photo thread. Most of us here are either currently serving or former serving PDF or RDF so why not?

That Congo clip was very moving. They went in there with virtually nothing except their personal arms and giant brass balls. Some boys they were, I tell you, some boys.

I remember the term "Ballooba" being used as an insult when I was kid. First exposure many Irish people had to coloured Africans.

    They aren't skyhawks videos.

The music selection on the second clip is unfortunate.

Adagio for Strings....quite fond of that piece of music really. I was just commending Skyhawk for compiling those clips and bringing them to our attention.

Harpers Adagio would be fine, but not when its taken from the Platoon soundtrack, complete with explosions.:p

Archie Raeside was the official photographer that went out.... he had a book out about his time in the congo - loads of pics that capture what went on.
