    Moved from Motors!

What test centre have you applied to?
Heres the current waiting times per test centre provided by the RSA Driving Test Stats

That is a bit like asking how long is a length of rope. I had to wait from October to May to do mine!!! That was before the learner permit came in so maybe they are running a tighter ship now.

Applied December and appointment in late March.
But cancelled that in early March, and new appointment date not received yet.

Last month, got email which looked like a phishing scam, but in fact it was a genuine email from RSA looking for the "Driver Number" from the provisional licence, which was not required previously, but which they now need, even for old applications. And apparently they cannot get this information from whichever office or department has these records; they have to contact every applicant individually.

Phoned them to give them the number.
Then got a message from them this month, this time by text message, asking for it again. For some reason, it was still missing from their system.

Someone posted a similar mail from the RSA, which turned out to be genuine, on these boards not too long a go. Personally i think it's an awful way of going about it, as it would have had alarm bells ringing if i had gotten that mail myself, and i'm sure there are a lot of people in the same boat. Even a letter from the RSA explaining the situation would be at least acceptable.

raheny.. i think it ridiculous that they can double the price and make you wait without any word, they should do it like the theroy test were u pick your date, would suit everyone better

what test centre you apply to?

You wont get your letter with the date until 2-3 weeks generally beforehand so if its only been 4 weeks since you applied and there is a 10 week waiting list then expect your letter around week 7 or 8.

RSA are in the process of changing the booking system to allow people to choose their dates/times but not sure when exactly this will come 'live'.

    Re online booking of tests...

I'm beginning to think I dreamt this now or maybe it was wishful thinking!! I cant find the reference although I was sure I'd read somewhere recently that the RSA were doing this although I've checked back through some of their newsletters and cant find it ...

If anyone else can confirm then thats great....if not then apologies treat my comment above with caution until I figure out if I'm going senile or going mad :)

You'll get a letter when an appointment is available. I applied in October 2008 and got my letter the following March for a test in April.

You're not dreaming although if it's anything to do with the RSA it could be a nightmare.
This was mentioned at recent meetings with Instructors and Driving Testers which took place around the country regarding changes to the driving test.

I think it's supposed to come in sometime during the summer. But we won't hold our breadth.

Occasionally they have cancellations and allow people who are waiting on dates to phone in and take a place, you have very little notice though. I got my truck test this way just last month but I only had 4 days to prepare, passed all the same.

Knowing the RSA as "intimately" as I do, not at all.

Thanks! I knew I'd seen or heard it somewhere recently. I agree on not holding our breath for it but would be nice if it eventually came about!
