NCT Emissions

I've had a car off the road for around 4 years(since I got a company car). With the way the economy is, I decided a couple of weeks ago to get it back on the road,in case the job goes belly up. Its now running fine after a bit of work, but it never had an NCT. The last time I got it serviced by a dealer, he mentioned the emissions were high and it would not pass the NCT, so I'm assuming that had not changed.
Now here's my question, if I could get it to run ok on E85 for the NCT, would the emissions be a lot better? Now I might just get it serviced anyway to sort the emissions out, but this thought struck me and where else for an answer?

    Make, Model, Mileage, & Year?

Someone around here will have decent info.

E85 will make sod all difference to your outputs.

My advice is forget the advice your dealer gave you previously as it is now 4 years out of date. Bring the car for an NCT, make sure the car has been driven for a good run before you do so, and take it from there.

As the car has been lying up for so long, obviously check the oil and preferably change the oil and filter before driving it again. Maybe drive the car for a week or two to get it back into shape and then bring it for an NCT, but check obvious items like lights & levels, tyre thread depths, seatbelts, wipers, etc.

Bring it for an NCT and then you'll have an objective list of defects. It's much easier to sort the items out then... Forget E85 and all that rubbish, just get the engine running again, do the usual quick checks, change the oil if necessary and then get it in for an NCT. E85 is only wasting your money in this case.

A bottle of injector cleaner into a fresh tank of fuel a few hours before the test, as well as a good run up the motorway should help reduce the emissions.

Also, did you have the battery disconnected for any lengthy period of time? As often, if you have the battery disconnected for a long time, when reconnected the ECU can take up to 100 miles to re-configure itself, so the engine will run rough and drink fuel.
