Buying a TV from Amazon UK and Digital TV

Lots of TVs on Amazon claim to have Freeview digital. As DTV formats are not the same here, will this be totally useless?

Will a UK TV pick up Irish terrestrial digital?

    Thanks.

UK DTT is uses MPEG-2. Ireland has gone for the more up to date MPEG-4 standard. There are some other differences too so UK digital TVs will not pick up Irish DTT with their built-in decoders. That doesn't stop you from getting a separate set-top box to pick up Irish DTT.
