    Hi everyone,
I really dont know who to go to about this so I'm hoping someone could shed some light on my situation.

I reciently got a car from somone in england (iv only payied part of the price of the car and need to fix them up with the rest) So the car is still in the English owners name.

I bought the car for use on a race track, but last Thursday my other car broke down and I had to take the car English car to work. On the way home one of the local gardai from the traffic corps pulled me in. and seized the car as its on English plates.(That I understand)

But if I was to buy this car it isnt to be used on the road ever again.
    So Im wondering.
    1. With the car not in my name can I push to get away with a small(whater price) fine and get the car back.

    2. When I do get the car back can I just pay whatever the fine is or do I have to VRT the car even though its not for the road?

Can anyone please let me know what I can do?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    NO

You have to pay the VRT to get the vehicle back and possibly a fine as well.

From my reading every car brought into the state (irrespective of usage) has to pay VRT

    see here

I would assume customs will eventually scrap it

In order to get the car back you will have to pay VRT, see my first post

    Revenue have an online calculator

    There is no cheap option
