Hey I'm thinking of having a poker night in my flat next weekend. Looking to get a game of eight to ten players to last for about three or four hours.
Just looking for some advice on starting stake sizes and blind time to achieve this! Any other advice on making the night run smoothly would be great.
    Thanks.

    6 k starting

15-20 min blinds should be fine, it wont last 3 or 4 hours, thats way too long for 1 home game imo (depends on stakes) with above structure u should get 2 or 3 games and have a bit of pity for the guy who goes out first by having another game,

    ban smoke breaks

and telling of stories when you're supposed to be dealing

and put in a penalty for acting out of turn / not acting / asking 'what are the blinds again' every single hand...

Get a copy of the rules, print them out and hang em on the wall.
    ban smoke breaks
Yeah. Smoke at the table or not at all.

agree with above set up works nicely with 5/6 starting chips :D just for fun have a scalp charge €5 from each player you usually give a different colour chip for this also keep it seperate to main pot as each player gets knocked out they pass their scalp chip to who ever knocks them out at the end of game every body gets €5 for every scalp they have it's a win win situation enjoy your game :D

8K starting atack. 20 min blinds.

    4 x 25 chips
    4 x 100 chips
    7 x 500 chips
    4 x 1K chips

    Do blinds of 25/50 - 50/100 - 75/150 - 100/200 - 150/300 - 200/400 - 300/600 - 400/800 - 500/1,000 - 600/1,200 - 800/1,600 - 1,000/2,000 and so on.

Get a 2nd deck and have the person in the small blind shuffle it so that there ready to deal straight after the previous hand finished. With 8-10 people this game shoud last 3-4 hours. When it goes to 200/400 you can take the 25 chips out just by rounding them off, if someone has 75 give themm 100, if someone has 125 give them 200.

what about the guy(s) who is out first , i always find it a bit of a dampner in a home game, watching and dealing gets boring after an hour, limited amount of rebuys, maybe 1 each is also an option but alot of people dont like rebuys

I wouldn't know how that feels as i always win :). If only. There will be something to do, i reccomend drinking spirits. As soon as another couple are knocked out they can start up a lil Small Stakes Cash Game for the laugh which could develop into a better game as more people join.

Could always just play like a 20c/40c cash game instead of a SNG then people can stop when they want etc, these games always turn into flips and like a 1/2 game full of shortstackers.
