I often have a beer after a long cycle, it's nice and refreshing.
Beer doesn't always result to getting drunk btw ...

Agreed. And your body will enjoy soaking up the beer calories after a good spin.:D

only about 170 calories in a pint of guinness. I'd say if you're going to have a pint o two, best to do it after a cycle.

    Absolutely.

I should say that I am in fact advocating the beer consumption post-spin. I realise now, re-reading my post, that probably wasn't clear.

After a cycle, good beer has a knack of 'hitting the sweet spot'. I love it.

You should of course be already properly re-hydrated before you drink the beer. Enjoy!

a pint of chocolate milk is a little less than 500 cals, POst recovery for 800 cals you can have 1 pint of chocolate milk 2 pints of guinness :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 105 ✭✭paddy's hill

A big glass of red wine is best.

This "French" act gets less convincing every day.

I'm so in favour of beer after cycling that I'm going to have one right now and I haven't been on my bike since Thursday.

I wonder does the OP know that he's caused half of boards cycling forum to reach for the fridge and take out a nice cool beer :D after starting this thread!

It was a good 100k alright - tuck in to a pint of what you fancy, it is well earned.

Also yes, the Heineken in the fridge has been raided....

I only did 50km today. so treating myself to a bottle of Houblon Chouffe. MMMmmm..... delicious.
BTW, beer has nowhere near 800cals per pint. I made a 7.5% stout recently and it is estimated as 301cals per 500ml.
    Beer is great.

I only did a short spin today, but thought to hell with it and had a bottle of Old Speckled Hen export... may even have another bottle :)

Baron de Pichon de Longueville (2000).

Followed by a fair few botles of cool crisp Staropramen.

    Lovely post cycle brews.

I did the 200k. My trusty Garmin told me that I lost 7200 calories. Went to a party last night to try and replace my loss. Beer is the best cure, about 10 pints, no aches or pains this morning....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭redmaxi

Didn`t bother with the ole 'Houblon Chouffe' myself - had two creamy pints of Murphys instead, thanks for all the advice and sorry if i set off a binge last night !

I rode 148km today and I am also drinking Chouffe Houblon...what a mighty beer it is.

And I might add, I have a bottle of 3 Fonteinen Kriek in the fridge...if you have any taste for gueuze and lambics at all, you want to check 3 Fonteinen out. Better than Cantillon....

Any source for it in Ireland? I have to rely on badgering friends who are travelling from Belgium or Holland. The best I've found here is Boon, but it's no 3 Fonteinen.
