If it's a bar for "kilkenny's homosexuals", why is there a bus coming from waterford?

    I don't see the relevance....

Because Dignity (1) is in Waterford, I take it?

That is beyond hysterical... Why if it is "exclusively for kilkennys homosexuals" would a bus be living from waterford... tragic

Dignity 1 is placed in Waterford, so all of the regulars (and others) from here can come along to Kilkenny for opening day.. did You get this now? Or not yet? and exclusively - because Kilkenny's Dignity is dedicated for them, as They are last big community in this Country with no Gay Bar.
    clear?

It's a local bar for local gays..

Outsideearth you realise that by saying it's exclusive you are implying that it will ONLY be for a. kilkenny people and b. who are homosexual. You can't then turn around and say it is open to everyone of either sexuality or geographic origin.

Beyond that I also think the name is silly but I am particular about these things...

I think it's great that such a small town now has its own gay-bar. Good luck with it :)

Careful now. You know how touchy Kilkenny people are about it being called that...

Are the owners of the new bar aware that the 29th is the start of the cats laugh festival in KK? Just wondering if it that was planned as the town will be very busy the whole weekend or did they not know. Would love to come along to the opening but I've tickets to a couple of the comedy shows. Anyone planning a trip to the town for the opening be aware hotel/B&B's will be like gold dust that weekend.

Ok, so the ad is crap, but still it's good to see Kilkenny coming out of the dark ages and having a gay bar. Dignity in Waterford is a really cool place for gays, lesbians and straight people.
There are more and more pubs in Kilkenny getting shabby and trying to attract the stags and hens crowd. Good to see a place starting up that, if it is anything like its Waterford equivalent, will be well managed.

Why is it that any town without a gay bar gets said to be in the dark ages? Maybe it's merely a matter of demand? According to google the metropolitan population of Kilkenny is 22,000. Is it that surprising that somewhere so small hasn't managed to support a gay bar yet? Especially considering the fact that a lot of Kilkenny's gays will move to Dublin. To compare, Dublin has a metropolitan population of 500,000, and supports 4 gay bars. That's an average of 125,000 people in the population for every gay bar. And I think a fifth bar in Dublin would struggle to be honest. So yeah, I don't think it's cos Kilkenny is in the dark ages, it's just that there aren't enough gays who want to socialise in gay bars there.

    There used to be six...

First let me get this out of the way, i have no affiliation with anything or anyone got to do with DIGNITY, don't even live in KK or Waterford. :D

Was just down in KK this weekend with my girlfriend, and we had an absolute ball there. It was absolutely great fun. As frequent visitors to the area, we totally hope the bar makes it.

Simple good fun, had by us anyway!! We will be back :p

As Boston says, there used to be 6 - albeit there wasn't a very long time between the Dragon opening and either Yello or Company (which went first? my memory is burnt out at this stage) closing.

The market is there on weekends to support another. On weeknights, I'd suspect not... although the Dublin scene is usually busier midweek than some allegedly buzzing scene cities (Brighton basically).

Anyone any idea what Dignity Waterford is like? Going this weekend since I'm working in the South East for the summer. Also because I worked on the site years ago I want to see how they changed O'Grady's yard around!

Assuming that both Fri and Sat are reasonably busy? Also what with it being on the same street as Rubys, Masons ( I think) etc etc what is the door policy. Don't want to be gawked at by people coming in out of curiosity tbh!

    Also price? (Duh)

Sorry for the terrible wording of this post btw.

Do you know that Kilkenny was the capital of Ireland from 1642-1649 until Cromwell came ? They made currency and made laws and held Gov. meetings there. But clearly you are a big fan of Noel Dempsey and Oliver Cromwell, the two people who did their utmost to take away their city status.

what's your point? What they said is correct Kilkenny is not officially a city and the only people who refer to it as a city are the people from there.

Regarding the size of Kilkenny for a gay bar Kilkenny has alot of tourist traffic which keeps all it's pubs going. Every weekend place is infested with stags and hen parties and hen parties love gay bars. Thought having it in Irish town away from John street aka hen party central might effect it. :p

Went along for the opening weekend and had a great night, planning another night out with friends from Dublin in a few weeks and will def be heading to Dignity.
