Convert VHS to DVD

I have a lot of old video tapes with stuff taped from the TV. Some of these are over 15 years old.

Anyways, I dont want to lost this material and therefore want to transfer them to DVD.

I have looked briefly and it seems I have a number of options to do this. As I am not exactly up to speed with a lot of this kind of technology, What would be the best & simplest way to acheieve this conversion? Plus, Where would be the best place to buy necessary equipment?

if you already have a VHS player then just get a DVD recorder and connect them both up and you're sorted.

if you have tapes that you'd want to edit (or put 2 tapes onto 1 disc etc) then i'd get a DVD with built in hard drive... very useful.

or, you can give them to a company to transfer them for you.
