ok so I got skyplus installed(sierra) but I notice that the 3 connections on the satellite dish have no cover coming down. Is this the new way sky are fitting them or should there be at least the little rubber covers on the inlet connections to protect against rain? I only copped it after they had gone. Tony or anyone know if these are new lnb's that dont need the cover attaching or should I ring sky to complain. thanks...

A slide down cover built in LNB.

On some it's not obvious. I even saw one LNB with taped connectors, which wasn't going to work.

I actually use waterproof connectors. But you need to keep the rain off as the two different metals of conector and socket react, corroding socket (Stainless steel to aluminium. They plate stainless on aircraft to stop it attacking the alloy structure).

Is it safe for you to get a closer inspection? See if the pull-down cover is pulled down at all, or if the connectors are the waterproof compression type (usually have a blue or black ring where the cable enters the connector).

Good close up here. You will see the ridged part of cover in the semi circular cut out at end. This is pulled downwards to cover the f connectors.

Funnily enough I have never waterproofed a connection baring a bit of old insulating tape and five years down the line on one dish not one bit of signal degredation. Lucky yes.

ok. I will have to get a ladder and see if the cover will come down but that will be a few weeks. I hope it will be ok till then.

Id ring Sieraa and ask them to come round and do it....after all you paid for an install, I regulary come across the dishes connection left only like this and if you ask me its done on purpose so the connections will rot and arc in the rain.

However there is a new type of Quab LNB which has a very small slide down door that doesnt actually fully cover the connections and water proof amalgamenting tape is also required hence why I advise calling in the people responsible...
