Wondering how many penalty points would you get for carrying a passenger in the back of a light van etc.

It depends, were they alive or dead?

The only offense immediately obvious is the seatbelt one, so 2pts, or 4 in court.

But could it not be a bit more than just two, the people in the back wouldn't be insured would they? I don't work in insurance but I cant imagine they'd be covered, only the people in the front

I'd imagine it might fall under dangerous driving too?

Seatbelts don't need to be used if not fitted. And since it's a van there are none, but if it was a car they all need seat belts for 20+years.

Yes they are insured, someone took an insurance company to court a while ago over this and won.

+1 and reckless driving spring to mind. Also could get done for more people in the vehicle then it's designed for.

a good friend of my wife's lost her husband like this last year. He was catapulted to his death from the back of a jeep.

Is that not enough reason to not do it?

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I refuse to carry anyone in the back of my van. The main reason is the fact I don't want penalty points for someone's lazyness, and secondly it's an ex-Guinness van so the back is completely sealed off from the cabin!
