I got the 2 point confirmation letter the other day. The weird thing is I was done in the middle of April and the letter says they come into effect in June. Surely thats 3 years and 2 months, not 3 years. Whats the reason for that?

To allow time for you to make an appeal. If you steal something and get 18 months, its from date of sentencing not from point of crime. Although you would get out after 4 months in this country!

Yes and no... You only have the points for 3 years, but they only get applied to your licence after you pay the fine and receive confirmation.

Not putting them on straight away allows you to refuse to pay the fine and go on to challange them in court. Paying the fine means you accept them and are happy to take the points and not challange them.

you were done in april, but you had no points on your licece until June, so now you have them until June 2011, so its only 3 years that you have them.

the time allows for processing and time for you to appeal them etc

The points should start from the day you get done. I suspect it's difficult to appeal and get the points over turned also it implies that the authorities accept speed detection system is flawed. And why not let you appeal within x amount of time from original date of notification?

    Maybe I'm missing something here?
