    Hi All,

I'm wondering is anyone here familiar with the Peugeot 1.4 16V engine (ET3JP4 )?

I'm in the middle of rebuilding one after the timing belt failed.

I've re-assembled everything and i find i have an offset of about 1.75mm between the inlet cam pulley and exhaust cam pulley, see the attached picture. I've taken both pulleys off and made sure they are sitting squarely on ends of the cam shafts, engaging with their respective keys etc, which they are... .

    Has anyone seen this before?

You should be able to see the wear mark of where the old belt used to be running ( can't see it in the pic you posted )
If the cams were out , have another look at them and suss what actually stops them from shuttling back n forth

Btw i've seen the plug in the centre of the camwheel come loose and hose oil everywhere , loctite or similar may not go astray on it.

The old belt was binding up against the front cover and there was belt filings ground into the pully, so i cleaned both them down when they were off...

The cams were out as the head was off. I looked at both cams and they both look like they are in the correct positions. There isn't much room for the cams to move either way...

Yea the manual says 10mn of torque on that plug which is nothing, i used a bit more than that putting it on ;)

I was wondering one thing, does the inlet pulley ( the Variable valve one ) move out a small bit when it gets filled with oil from the engine?

As it does look a bit further back from the notches in the centre part of the VVTI pulley, from what i remember when taking it off. I remember the pulley being much closer to the notches in the centre hosing...
