    Hi all,

Only started playing flight sim within the last few days.

Flew then Rome-Naples adventure today with a 737, and thought it was great.

During that adventure you are told "go to heading...", "climb to 11,000 feet" etc etc. And you can see the purple line on the GPS to make sure you're on the right track etc.

I've tried doing free flight, e.g. from Dublin to Cork. Went to flight planner, find route. However, I just request takeoff from ATC and then I'm on my own. I'm not told to fly heading etc.

Is there any way of replicating the Rome-Naples adventure setup in free flight scenarios?

    Thanks :)

When you create a flightplan make sure its set to be IFR. That way ATC will guide you the entire way and vector you onto the glideslope for the runway at your destination. If you make it VFR the controller just hands you off as you say.

    Thanks a million - I'll give it a go!

Just a tip, when I started flying the jets in flight sim my main mistake was approaching either too fast or slow (normally too fast). I found searching online for the real world approach speeds, stall speeds etc helped a lot. enjoy

A great way for beginners to learn is in fact the FS004 lessons. Very helpful, albeit localised a lot to the US.

Consider VATSIM if you're interested in making it more realistic, but always a good idea to get up to speed offline first.
