    does Running make you a better cyclist? I have started running training once a week, along with my cycling.if it helps does anyone know how it helps?

    Im no expert but surely running is a more time-efficent way of building stamina?

    I'd say it's a good addition to a fitness routine.
    Improved stamina+building of 'cycling legs' can only be a good thing surely? Important thing is you're not aggrevating an old injury etc. Running is harder on the joints...

    Running won't build bike fitness. It will make you lighter so that may help cycling. But running doesn't work as bike training.

    Am not a triathlete or runner...conventional wisdom is that running isnt good for cycling because using diff muscles and muscle trauma. Cycling is good for running because it allows you to crosstrain without injuring muscles. My experience as a regular cyclist, rower and occasional jogger is that running really improves cardio fitness more that the rest and this translates to other activities. Running is sadly the most time efficient as well

    Every cyclist I see posting seems to be doing long distance, I only commute and take short spins. I found weight training helped me a lot. Of course this might make people bulkier so would not suit long distance guys, like skinny marathon runners vs sprinters built like tanks.

    Yeah i do a bit of running and find it helps when i go out on the bike, i feel stronger and as someone else said running is great for your cardio which helps when going up them hills, mind u i'd only go running once a week, rest of the time i'm on the bike.

    Running/walking up hills is supposed to work similar muscles to cycling.

    I play football once or twice a week. Works different muscles to cycling. I stopped playing for a few weeks but kept up cycling. Went back playing and my stomach muscles were in agony for 2 days after my first match. Also my hamstrings were not used to the running.

    Is running up hills not meant to be very bad for your knees cos of the angle your feet are to your legs ?
