Early - Bohernabreenna or Edmondstown or both, if interested.

I'm not sure of exact roads, I just follow the Garmin but will go anywhere at the same time. What about (as a rough guide):

out: Dundrum - Enniskerry - Annamoe - Rathnew

Back through: Newcastle - Greystones - Bray - Dun Laoighre - Ranelagh - City Centre. around 100k I'd say.

Could be a flat route I'm not sure but I dont know the wicklow routes unless you do.

I cant really do that route as it is wron side of town for me - I need to head back in to home via Lucan, as I have to look at a bike there. So I was hoping to descend to Kilbride and then head to Lucan via Blessington/Kill/Straffan.
Anyway, I will check here in the morning and let you know for sure.

Where's your starting point, I dont mind where I go tbh, but I've only started back so I'm not the best climber at all - just dont want to hold you back if wanna put the foot down.

I'm up for ~100km, don't really mind re route but would prefer some hills with the w200 coming up soon.

Have we got some start meeting place / time or something at the moment?

    EDIT:

Actually I'd be up for that aswell. Where are you heading from? Meet at Dundrum bridge or city centre (I'm coming from Castleknock so anything along the way is fine)

I'm in Rathmines but I've to go to my parents' place first and meet a mate there at half 9 (it's quite near to the car park) but if you want to tag along you're more than welcome!

Sounds good, I'll be at the car park at 9.30-9.45 (depending on the headwind tomorrow - hasn't been too nice recently!).

Yo, if anyone wants to join me and Bernard, we're gonna do something like this. Meeting at the Spar shop in Ranelagh at 9ish. Plan is to be home by 2. We might detour by Djouce and Luggala, depending on how we're motoring.

If anyone is interested PM before 8:15 in the morning and I'll PM my number back.

Nice spin today. 84k, had a cramp in calf and a puncture by grand apart from that. Oh the weather which seem to be schizoid at the moment, with 60min's driving rain & wind to completely sunny!

Yeah, was sunny going out then wind and driving rain about 30km into ride, cold too, feet were numb. Only did 60k, felt a twinge in my right knee so didnt want to push it.

Anyone get this before, sore knee? Also, whats with the sore elbows, is that normal when starting back after years off? An hour after riding and their fine again, well almost.

Maybe I'm getting too old for this sh!t:)

Met with Donal, BA and Dave OBrien & gang for the console fun cycle. Weather was brutal. continued on to Kippure with Donal and a friend. nice to meet ye. This is May, of 2009. When are we going to get some global warming!!!!!

Climbed kippure (thanks to Donal for persuading me). Descended kippure (Hope Donal's friend is ok). The lads went onto Laragh, I turned and went home.

On the way home was taken out by a car. Took a bad fall. Knee and calf in serious pain. Gardai offered to get a taxi for me to head home - I should have accepted.
Have yet to examine bike, just hoping it is ok.

When I got up this morning, I really didn't want to head out - I should have stayed in bed.

Oh, when I got home - there was no warm water.
I hate cycling - there I said it.

Dare I ask how it happened?

Parked car pulls out into a line of traffic. I was first in line, and there were a lot of cars behind me.
He pulls out as I was passing him (about 1M away). I hit the brakes and screamed, and he kept driving.
As he hit me I went over the bonnet, bike went over the bonnet (still clipped in). Shoulder took the brunt of the road. Left knee and calf took the brunt of the car.

Shoulder seems ok. Leg very sore.
Oh, I was wearing a helmet. Pity, they dont protect legs:rolleyes:.
Guy admitted liabillity, gave name, contact details. He did apologise.
Gave statement to Gardai (happend very close to a Garda station).

I was very lucky that I was tired today, because I was doing about 25km/h, coming down a steep hill. If I was coming down that hill the way I normally do, then I was toast - thank my lucky stars.

I am furious - I have this saying that I say to me kids - "dont say sorry, just dont do it in the first place, and dont do it again".

I am taking driving lessons at the moment, and in each lesson, it is drilled into you. Left mirror, left shoulder, central mirror, right mirror, right shoulder - then indicate, then pullout IF IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

Why cant all road users follow the rules of the road.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 880 ✭✭✭eggie

That sucks ROK ON, I normally be calling drivers stupid B@st@rds at least 3 times every ride. Why cant they open their fecking eyes.

Hope the leg heels up soon.

I met Dónal and his m8 kev(iirc) in laragh, he was just a bit bloody, didn't stop him much :) i must thank Dónal aswell for making me not go home via enniskerry, it half killed me to go back via whatever way(during which kev almost crashed into a horse) i don't remember but feel good now! And yeah weather sucked this morning, least it improved in the evening, was dry enough to get up to 60km/hr going down stocking lane anyway....damn cars infront wouldn't go any faster

on the upside 106km, first century in mountainous terrain so yey! though now i've no excuse to wimp out and do the wicklow 100 instead of the 200...

Very sorry to hear that ROK ON. Get well soon and back on the bike ASAP! :)

Last weekend i rent a car and drove down to cork, when i was around country roads, i was really afraid that a bicycle can popup from nowhere, i think i was actually getting paranoid with it. I am sure that if i was not cycling i wouldn't even think that in the blind corner there might be a cyclist.

    @ ROK ON,

Sorry to hear about your accident today. Heal quickly, looking forward to seeing you out on the roads again soon.

Ouch, sorry to hear that ROK ON. Hope all heals up quickly.

Did 108km today - home to Marlay where I met with ROK ON and the Console lads, then went to Stocking Lane to Kippure which I didn't exactly want to do but once you stop at the gates... very glad we went up though (after we got up there!). Went on to Laragh and met up with Nietzschean and his mate there. Got a bit lost heading back from Laragh to Lugalla and ended up in Roundwood, but found our way back after awhile. Went by the Old Long Hill as Nietzschean said by the Liam Horner and I got very very tired on the way up it.

Turned into a very warm day though, was suited up for the morning rain alright but not for the afternoon sun! At the bottom of Stocking Lane near Scholarstown Road we passed the ice-cream van, he definitely should have been up at the Viewpoint earlier.

    Some pics...

First three are with the Console spin, second three are Kippure with ROK ON and Kev, last one is spin with Nietzschaen. Not the best quality.

What happened to Kev? an off on the way down Kippure?

@ROK_ON -sorry to hear about that mate, sounds nasty. Heal up soon! *hands over some grapes*

Yep - Kev did a bit of off roading. Fall cushioned by some soft heather/turf. Happened just in front of me and I winced as I knew what was happening, but could do nothing to stop it.

Fair play to y'day on the 300k.

Grapes - yes I had a few of the last night in the liquid form.

Yeah as you said ROK ON he landed on soft stuff both times on the way down so he was ok - had one cut but he said it was just a small cut after reopening.

And, eh, he was well enough to ask me to take the photo of him and the bike knee deep in wet peat stuff :)

    No worries.
Am ok - had a short cycle cycle today. Bike and me seem fine.
Come out soon for a spin (on bike not scooter).

    Glad you're OK, scary stuff!

I imagine the driver got a scare too. A ROK_ON through the side window at 25kph doesn't bear thinking about. :pac:

Hey ROK_ON, sorry to hear about the crash. Great to hear you are OK - ish. Hope your man got the bigger fright, the one that hit me the other week looked pretty shaken, thankfully. Think they all should have a bit of a scare (without hurting cyclists) so they leave their phones, drinks, cigarettes, fruit etc. alone and drive the flipping car properly!
