I'm wondering if any boardsies have done the Great Wall Marathon before?

Its something that hugely appeals to me and looks like there are unique challenges to completing it due to the nature of the course.
If anyone has done it before I'd love to hear how it was and what kind of training you did for its unique challenges.

Anyone here ever thought of doing it or have any recommendations for specific training that would be good for literally running up steps etc ?

I'd recommend the Spink in Glendalough. Run it clockwise up the steps and reverse your route as it starts to level out in the Miner's village.

I think I'd prefer to run/explore it on my own, outside of the package deal. To be honest, you're going to be walking much of the route, because of the inclines and steps so it's not going to be very marathon'esque. Why not take a few days and cover much greater distances/explore different parts of the wall/country and do it at your own leisure? You could even tie it in with the Beijing marathon in October. There are various guided tours where you can camp/sleep overnight on the wall too.
