    Never had a Mondeo....but have a 04 407 1.6 hdi at the moment....:)
so far so good ....getting average 52mpg and it has loads of power for a 1.6.

    The common problems are .....
1)Lower balljoints need replacment every 30kish
    2)Diesel partical filters need replacment+additive topup @ 100kish
    3)Dual mass flywheel normally goes @ 100kish(thats goes with 90% of modern diesels today.....e.g. ford,toyota,v.w etc...
    Turbos can also give problems...:(

The don't make them like the used to....
Every car has its problems and these are the main ones on the
    1.6 hdi 407's....;)

For all the 407 owners out there you'll find out all about 407's here
    http://www.407owners.com/forums ......:D

my vote goes to the 407. i presume your talking about the older version of the mondeo. the 407 is a much fresher design. its one of the most comfortable cars in the road. the hdi engine is also bullet proof. id say there would be a lot more gadets and toys in the 407 too compared to the mondeo

407 should be cheaper to buy and as GERMANROCKS said, it will have more bells and whistles. That 1.6HDi is bulletproof. I prefer the design of the Peugeot compared to the Ford but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

if its new you are looking at, have you considered the C5?

CO2 figures at 140 with the 1.6hdi and its far better looking than most cars out there in its class. The tourer is even better looking

Both are barges, have you considered the SEAT EXEO ? its based on a small executive saloon (Audi a4) and has the interior from the Audi A4 Convertible, also has the latest and greatest engines from the VW range - 2.0 turbo Diesel and petrol.

The Seat ain't available here from what I understand.
OP, I've have 2 Mondeos - never missed a beat, easy and cheap to service,no timing belt service interval and a good car all round.
