I'm an idiot? Missed my sign on date by 13 days!!

Hi all. My first post.:rolleyes:

On a 3 day week since xmas,social welfare came to work and processed all 600 or so of us.HR processed the slips themselves week by week.

Subsequently I accepted voluntary redundancy.


Was processed quickly march 31st (as in the system already).

("Here's my proof of voluntary redundancy"-"good man visit the post office every wednesday")


4 payments later.goin well.

Had collected on 2 x wednesday's,a friday and a tuesday.

No mention of things like "holiday forms" or" payment be gone after 3 days if not collected" etc.

This Thursday nothing there.
"girl says maybe it's the bank holiday"

ringing today.on hold with no joy for hours.

Remained blissfully ignorant til had a look on this forum.

Here's the I'm an idiot bit....

I didn't realise I had to sign on.Never occurred to me.was never mentioned.

I SAW the line during my one visit to the social.

What did I think It was????? No idea.


(I don't know what I expected would happen to be honest but as no mention of signing on when I was processed,just plodded along)




No money in post office yesterday.
Had a look on boards.ie today it dawns on me.

I'll be 13 days late on Monday.
Reading previous threads I will get cut off and likely get the head ate of me,have to reapply and possibly be waiting weeks.

I'm away for 10 days may 20th.wouldn't have heard of signing holiday holiday forms before/after until today and this forum.Cheers for that.

You should have got a letter off them telling you the sign on days, which are different to the collect the cash days. Sounds like you maybe got lost in the system somewhere then if they processed you all differently to normal where people turn up at the office themselves to get initially registered on the system.

system may not have lost me exactly.
Moved out of gaff back home on 17th.
Said this would be the story when processed.Wanted to use new address.
Guy says use your present address until you move and afterwards go to next social welfare office.
Haven't done that.Hence there may be a letter which arrived sometime after april 17th.

Still onus on me myself to know what's what!

What exactly is the sign-on date?? Do you go to the post office or welfare office and what exactly happens??
