Still the highest in Europe more or less :(

"The proposed monthly rental charges per line have
been determined as €12.18 for LLU and €9.79 for SLU."

    plus Vat

This is still half as much more than they pay for access across the border. Not far enough at all. I wonder if Eircom have still any money left for high court cases?

Yes, there is no getting away form the fact that the price is high but it is a START.

what is important with LLU is the difference between the retail price for a line and the LLU price - the %'s are now similar in Ireland and other markets.

That does not get away from the fact that line rental in general is still too high for consumers...but hopefully if LLU drives competition etc etc

Only if you take the 4th highest of the 27 as a "START". Why must it be so high? (Rhetorical question)

It's not that it isn't a start per se it's still exorbitant and shows the utter uselessness of Comreg to grasp the nettle of stagnation in the telco market.

Both "shared access" and LLU are the highest in the EU.If this step is taken prices for LLU will fall but not the "shared access" section.
If you want to drive competition then drive it but not in some ideological way, by raising prices or gently reducing slightly some sections of pricing.
(The CER let that one slip, as their ideological guideline for pricing)

The whole shooting match needs to be resolved and resolved quickly otherwise IMHO telcos will disappear and we'll be left with a monopoly provider. That provider is essentially broke...

My prognosis for the telco industry is very dark today:)

Maybe IOFFL should respond to the consultation itself - remember this is only a draft decision.....the more that respond, the better.....? Just a thought...

Unless basic DSL is €19.95 inc vat, inc line rental, phone lines are doomed.
