    Hi
I am going through a hard very negative time in business at the moment (i guess like the whole country!)

Can anyone suggest any good positive thinking / inspirational / business books? I have just read the Power of Positive thinking by Norman Vincent Peale and would absolutely recommend it to everyone out there...........it really instills hope back into you

    Any suggestions???

    Hi there,

Duncan Bannatyne's book "Anyone can do it" is very good. Well worth a read, he's the Scottish guy in the UK's version of Dragon's Den. Talks about his rags to millionaire status but keeps it simple, highly recommended.

+1, I read this about a year ago and after a slow start, it's an excellent book.

have this book as well.... read the first couple of chapters (good book) ... but to be honest you dont need a book to inspire you to look at other ways to improve your business. (a PR Stunt/advertising could help improve sales)

    ask yourself
    - whats wrong with the service/business ....
    - can you afford to drop prices and advertise heavily (one of the main methods of making a business successful),
    - do you offer a better service or wider choice or goods ?
    - is there anything that you think your business could/would benefit from (it may be a bit of a gamble but if its a well informed and calculated risk it will pay off).....
    - what do your customers want ?

decide what you want to change in your business which you believe will improve it.....ask your customers what they think could improve the business.

if necessary - branch into a different area.

If your looking for a good easy book to read on customer satisfaction, feedback, I'd say Fergal Quinn's book "Crowning the customer" is class, very simple but effective ideas.

A great one was placing a small hacksaw near the broccoli stand and allow people to select the bits they want and to saw off the stalk so they're not paying for sh1tty bits!!! Exactly what the people were thinking!
    Classic!

If you're looking for motivation and inspiration... little things that can have an immediate impact... then I'd go for "The Pursuit fo WOW!" by Tom Peters. You can pick it up for a few seconds and get some ideas.

If you want to revolutionise what you are doing completely... try "Good to Great" by Jim Collins.

Also, check out TED.com and watch a few of the videos there. You can find one related to what you are doing. Really inspirational stuff.

Lmnover, your right a lot of business are holding on by the fingernails so you aint alone. Just think in time this too will pass. Tony Robbins on the Ted.com site is a very good one also about changing your business I heartilly recommend looking up Seth Godins videos on google. He is telling the future of marketing imho. His books Triibes, purple cow and all marketers are liars are not motivational but are good advice.
