Towing a car that is not taxed from Dublin to Dundalk - car is not going to be used and is being moved to dismantle for parts for another car - I can tranfer my insurance to this one I know to sit in it while its being towed but is anyone aware of the tax issue?

havent had chance to ring council tax office today and weekend now so wont be able to till monday - is anyone aware of what options I have...

I'd imagine it needs to be taxed unless its trailered, considering you can be done for non-display of tax when the car is parked up in a public place. Minimum tax period is 3 months.

It's not possible to tax a car for a day. It's also not legal to tow a car with a towrope if that's what you are planning.

A flatbead or a tow truck would be the way to go. Probably cost in the region of €150 to get it to Dundalk. I recently paid €90 from Balbriggan to Tallaght

I've been in touch with the Gardai and they have told me its fine to tow it with a rope...

I would check with your insurance company and the towing cars insurance company. If the car is in no fit state to drive on the road it won't be in a state to tow? You wont have any brakes, nor power steering.
