Thinking of Buying a Golf??!

Hi I am 21 years old and I currently on the look out for my 1st car.I am on the lookout for a golf,either a gti,gt tdi or just a straight 1.9 tdi.Was wondering if anyone has previously owned one and could give me any details about mpg,problems,likes about the 3 above mentioned models.I have about €5-6k to spend.So it would probably be in the 00-03 category.
Any info would be great!

Also what is the story with vrt if i was to go north or to uk??

I have 4 years no claims and named driver experience..Have my full licence 3 years in aug too...I have priced premiums and for a gti 01 your talking €900-1100 which isnt bad?

Not too bad in that case! If it was me, i'd be going for a nice TDi, something like this.
