Theory on the Swan {possibly a spoiler}

    Hi guys,

    New to the site, hope I don't get in hot water for posting this. It's my own personal theory, discussed it with friends earlier on.

    Faraday, in 'The Variable', spoke of negating the energy of the Swan's electromagnetic 'release' with the Jughead bomb.

    If the energy of the electromagnetism is negated, perhaps the blast is negated too? As in, the blast and electromagnetism cancel each other out.

    Further, if that is what would happen, could the failsafe switch Desmond activated have detonated the hydrogen bomb?

    I'd love to hear your opinions on this,

    ♠Jay♠

    Its possible alright but I don't know, it sounds a bit flimsy. I mean he sets of an atomic bomb and all that happens is the swan station gets destroyed?

    If, in Lost physics, the two energies cancel each other out though?

    I mean, when he turned the failsafe key all that happened to him was the loss of his clothes, despite the entire station being around him when it blew up... it's equally as plausible.

    Yes it will negate the energy, Daniel has said it will but I don't think you can stand beside the feckin thing and you'll be fine. I really hope the "fail-safe" that Desmond used isn't a nuke, just seems stupid.

    I'm not following you though. I mean, if it negates the energy, and therefore there is no consequence presumably because that energy is 0, wouldn't it make sense that they'd need something with that kind of energy to do it?

    Unless the DI bring their own nuke over, I don't see how they'd do it.

    Yeah I guess you would really. Still, I hope its something else...

    An explosion that big would create its own electromagnetic shock. Even if it was cancelled out, the blast couldn't be. And if the writers do use it to explain the hatch, then they are just plain lazy. I don't see it happening somehow.
