    Hi all

I've been using this whole site for help on all sorts of stuff for years but this is the first time that I've had to ask for help so here goes......

I'm living in an appartment block that has a communal satellite dish. I'm not sure if it is a sky only dish. I've asked the manager but its like talking to a briquette......in other words, a waste of time unless on psychedelic drugs :D:D

What I want to know is if it is possible to connect a Freeview/Freesat box to it? I've found cheap boxes online and cos my reception of non-RTE channels is terrible I need something more. Is there any easy way to find out or do I purchase a box and suck it and see?

    Cheers

    John:)

If it's a communal dish then it's more than likely used for reception of Sky, so a Freesat box would work fine. Note that Freeview is a terrestrial system and would NOT work.

Can you borrow a Sky/Freesat receiver from a friend and test it out first before buying your own equipment?

You wouldn't be able to use any type of analogue receiver as the dish most likely has a digital-only LNB. As for freeview, no. I tried one from the UK and its a no go. I'm also pretty sure you need an NTL cable feed to use a digital set top box, as seen with the dodgy-boxes.

You only need a cable feed for a cable service - satellite is completely different.
