commerical van contents insurance

    hi all i am new about here ,so be nice
    I was wondering if it possable to insure personal property/tools carried in a commerical panel van.

    It is not universally available but I know where you can get it. However, it would have to be as an add-on to your van insurance or liability insurance.

    Hey Mr Darragh,

    No, I'm afraid it's not possible to insure tools in a van. My husband has to unload his van into the garage every night and reload it in the morning.

    A friend had his van broken into in Maynooth two weeks ago and loads of his tools were taken including a brand new con saw. He could only claim for the broken lock. :(

    Yes, you can get insurance to cover items stored within the vehicle. It's not standard, so you will need to make a specific inquiry.

    You can also get this under commercial insurance (business insurance, rather than vehicle insurance).

    Optis through RSA do a stand alone van contents policy (Goods in Transit), its something like €50 per €1000 worth of tools.
