What exactly happens when you try to boot?

If it doesn't even look for a cd and boots straight into windows:

You need to change the boot order in the BIOS.
Just as you turn on the computer you should see a message saying something like "press enter to enter setup".
When in setup there should be a menu to change boot order - make sure CD-ROM is first on the list. Press F10, save and exit.

If this doesn't work check to see if the CD burned correctly

He may have burned the .iso image as a file to the disk, rather than burning the image itself. Judging by his spelling, that's what I'd guess.

Also, burn it at 4x speed if you can, that makes a difference sometimes.

I actually takes a bit of effort to burn an iso on a windows machine, if you dont have nero then it's not supported

    ^ What?
There's loads of free burning software that support image burning!
    InfraRecorder, ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP...
