I have been on Jobseekers benifit since last october due to redundancy.

    I was in construction

I have managed to get a job with only a few shifts per week. Its only 12euro an hour. But its beter than watching Oprah on daytime.

Can I work these shifts with out losing money from my jobseekers.

I also have mortgage tax relief which is paying half my morgage. I cant afford to lose that.

Would I be better off not working part time?

I don't mean to sound like a leach on benefit , but I have a family which I can just about feed and house. I cant afford to lose any of the benefits as we are on the bread line.
I so wish times where better.:(

    Hey there

Not at all, you don't sound like a leech, these are hard times, and in fairness, if you've been working all these past years, you are entitled to be helped along in these hard times, after all, why else are you paying PRSI?

There is something called supplimentary income, if you are not working 5 whole days per week, then you are entitled to continue claiming for the days you are not employed.

You will register this and be sent out a form every week, in which you will 'x' the days you were employed, and 'o' the days you are not. Then you will get it stamped by your employer, and deliver this to the social welfare office. This has to be done each week.

I sent you a PM with some more information, it may be a bit too personal to post here.

    Good Luck

Sent that in a hurry, meant to mention, obviously, that you will still receive benefits for the days you are 'unemployed'.

Thats the idea of the form. And that payment comes in the form of a cheque that is posted to your house, so it will get you out of the bloody signing on queue at least!!! :)
