Does anyone here sell on ebay.co.uk?

Went back selling for the first time in a few months.

First batch of items is DVDs.
75% of which are box sets.

Ebay's cap on free p&p for all items going to the UK is causing hassle.

Obviously I can list postage costs for everywhere else bar the UK in the dropdown box and cover things off with an explanatory paragraph in 'item description'. However some buyers are still confused and think that no postage applies once they're in the UK. I'm dreading to think what will happen if a UK person wins an auction and then refuses to pay the postage.

A work-around which I just discovered is to state "courier - bulky items" under the domestic postage field which means that all the postage costs have to specified in the body of the account description. Fine while it lasts but not ideal.

An obvious solution is to list on ebay.ie and allow international shipping but there are a number of advantages on listing on ebay.co.uk namely

1 - Getting paid in sterling. I buy lots of vinyl from UK sellers so can use those funds without incurring exchange rate fluctuations.

2 - Greater visibility on the UK site. The market exists there. It does not exist to the same extent here. UK buyers are more likely to bid on sterling priced items anyway.

There is a £2 cap on CDs and £4 on LPs for shipping to the UK. An Post rates do not cover these which means more headaches when I list items for sale in these categories.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Yes, I'm selling some of my CD collection on eBay.co.uk. There's also the added advantage of pre-filled item info. You just enter the bar code number and Bob's your uncle. Insertion fees are also nil for private sellers listing auctions with a max starting price of 99p. You can list your item, set it to relist if it doesn't sell and let it ride.

The postage cap does suck big round hairy testicles from and Irish seller's perspective. Postage for a CD to the UK costs €3 and £2 does not equal €3. Also, if I want to put in a price for the rest of the world (ROW) and a price for Ireland, Irish buyers see both charges and it gets a bit messy so I just charge the same price for ROW including Ireland.

Since I'm just trying to offload a few CDs and make a few quid in the process, I don't mind too much losing a few pence on the UK shipping. It generally evens out in the end.

thanks JJ. Multi disc CD sets will be a nuisance with the £2 cap unless you go down the work-around route I mentioned above. But that has the disadvantage of the buyer having to read the item description to ascertain the shipping cost.

Amazon Marketplace is looking more attractive but I'll need to open a UK bank account first.

I sold on ebay.co.uk until the odd buyer said they never received an item even though all my packages had return addresses.

It turns out that unless you have a tracking number a buyer can just say they never received something and voila free item.

Ebay and paypal decide in their favour every time.

That was enough to stop me selling there.

they can also do that on ebay.ie or any other ebay so registered is the only way to go if the items arent dirt cheap
