Poor picture quality on Oireachtas Report on RTE TV

Most of the time I happen to watch Oireachtas Report on RTE the picture quality, to me, is appalling - due to very 'lossy' digital compression in the recording.

Even with fairly static scenes the picture is noticeably 'blocky', picture becomes very blurred if there is a lot of movement or the camera pans, and lip-movement of a speaker is unnatural.

Oireachtas Report is not the only programme broadcast on Irish TV which suffers from these affects in a significant way.

picture standard does not stoop this low on anything produced by or for the main UK channels.

    Do viewers here not care?

picture quality last night on Oireachtas Report was OK
    - but the previous night it was horrific quality (which prompted me to post)

Maybe its editing can be done at alternate locations, with one producing very 'lossy' output?

Im suprised you were able to stay awake long enough to notice :D

But seriously Low bitrates may be acceptable on dedeciated news/parliament channels due to the nature of the programming (fairly static pictures with the audio being the important bit) but I agree its a bit sloppy to have such poor pictures on a mainstream terrestrial channel
