    hELP ,
    Can anyone help me.
I want the best (one that someone has used) software that I can back up my DVDs and convert to play on Archos 700.
I need it as I'm going to france in summer and want kids to be able to watch the movies.
I've copied my bought kids DVDs using DVDFAB on to hard drive and now want to convert video and audio files to Archos 700 format.
I want to purchase the software but i don't want to buy crap software.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Pajoe

On my computer I use Handbrake, it's free software and is definitely one of the best video converters available IMO. A word of warning, most payware software is pretty crap/not worth the money you pay.

Handbrake will work and it's free.

I'd probably rip it to an:
    -avi container
-480 pixel width (handbrake will crop and choose height automatically)
    -xvid video codec
    -MP3 audio codec (stereo mixdown)

750-1000kbps video bitrate would be plenty for such a low res. 192kbps for the audio would be grand. Or, just pick a convenient file size (700MB etc) and go with it. 480x is a very low res, but that's the res of the screen, so i'd only go higher (eg 640 or 720) if you were going to be playing the files elsewhere (increase the video bitrate if you're going with a higher res).
