Likewise; a colleague had the Mk1 with a K-series engine and it went through head gaskets regulary. Clutch and coolant system issues too. Last year moved to a Mk11 & hasn't put a foot wrong yet - VAG diesel engine I think.
IMO Visually the best of the smaller SUVs if you like that sort of thing.

Its a Ford derived diesel. Ya its a nice car, drove it alongside a Ford Kuga and there is a big difference. Sure, the Kuga is more nimble and handles better but the Freelander feels much more grown up and is more refined and altogether leagues ahead. Go for it!

i have a 07, 60000 Km, and everything still going, heavy on diesel, 30mpg if you are lucky, lots of room inside, front and back, i had mine chipped and there is plenty of power,

not the smoothest however on country roads, but grand on main ones.

pm me if you have any more questions

What spec are you buying? What kinda money? The "S" is the spec to go for, although the E has enough spec, the S has extra's like cruise control, on steering radio control, better air conditioning, clear view pack (ie. front fogs and head lamp powerwashers), 17" alloys and terrain response. I know it's very unlikely case, but don't for the life of you buy a petrol.

It is heavy on diesel alright, but I presume thats the auto only getting 30mpg? The manual should be managing a bit more than that.

We all know someone who's had one of those......;)

I dont like the Freelander at all being honest. I think they are so old and dated. We've one or two of them around, and they tend to give quite a bit of trouble too.

*whispers* Freelander 2... Ie. no 3.2 petrol, and very much so in date!

Was there not a 1.8 engine available in those?? I still dont like em LM. Just a personal preference. Or a nasty aftertaste left by my last episode in a Freelander......
