    Hi,

I am tongue tied (thin layer of skin attaching tongue to base of mouth). Is this something a dentist or oral surgeon can help with me or should I speak with a GP?

Some dentists may deal with it . If yours doesn't he can send you to an oral surgeon or periodontist who will fix it easily.

In babies, it was normal to snip it as soon as it was noticed. Midwives did it routinely, then they weren't allowed to, and suddenly mothers were told that tongue tie was entirely benign and causes no problems at all, ever. Tell that to a woman trying to breastfeed a baby with tongue tie! Not tomention speech problems.,

Currently, there is one doctor in the South of Ireland who snips tongue tie and he has a huge waiting list.

I'd say a GP could probably do it for an adult, if you asked.

it's fairly routine, ask your dentist, he'll either do it or send you to somebody who does.

my understanding is it limits tongue movement which hinders the tongue bringing food to the teeth

    Hi EileenG,

I have a 3wk old baby with severe tongue tie and am trying to get it snipped but failing! I am trying to breastfeed and I'm constantly very sore and nearing the end of the road.
You mention 1 doctor in Ireland who snips tongue tie, could you send me the details of that doctor?

    Thanks!

You poor thing. Tongue tie is one of the most difficult things to deal with in breastfeeding if you don't get it fixed.

Prof Puri in Crumlin does it. I believe there is also an Oral surgeon in the Hermitage in Lucan who does it too. It's a very quick proceedure, no trauma.
