Hydrogen power for your car

    This months Car Mechanics has and interesting article on this:
    http://www.waterboost.co.uk/waterfuel/site/home.asp?style=large&id=1&username=&password=

    from the website;
    N BRIEF: The Waterboost System uses spare electricity from your cars alternator to generate Hydrogen and Oxygen gas from water. The Hydrogen and Oxygen is fed into the manifold of your vehicle...The results are astounding, more torque at lower engine speeds, lower emmissions, cooler engine, less carbon build up and considerably more miles per gallon.

    The magazine essentially agrees these claims hold true and found a 1.8 golf had noticibly more torque after fitting the kit and returned better mpg.

    Interesting mod, especially for those of us who are known to drive old barges with big engines.

    Whatever about the supposed benefits of adding oxyhydrogen to the fuel air mixture to improve performance or economy (which is disputed), there is absolutely no such thing as "spare electricity" from the alternator.

    I don't believe it for a second. You're using the motor to generate electricity to make hydrogen to run the motor. It's ridiculous.

    OK, so I looked it up:

    From wikianswers:

    Q. How does a HHO generator work on vehicles?

    A. The simple answer is that HHO generators don't work!

    I don't think that's what it's claiming. There are some people out there claiming that you can run a car exclusively on oxyhdrogen but omit to mention that you need energy presumably from the car battery, which needs to be charged, to fuel the electrolysis process. This is clearly nonsense.

    What that article is about, as far as I can see, is using oxyhydrogen as some kind of supplement to the fuel/air mixture which supposedly gives some benefits although most independent tests have shown little or no improvement. The bit about "spare electricity" is clearly nonsense though.
