I saw a RTE report on the Samuel Beckett Bridge leaving holland last week, and a massive crane has now arrived on site. Does anybody know on what date, they plan to start the bridge lift?

Not sure but there's a thread over in C&T here: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055547326 which might have some info.

It will be June before they start to lift the bridge.
I expect they'll just moor it on a pontoon, or something, until then.

Does anyone know how it opens? Does it lift before it turns? The ends aren't curved...

Actually went to visit it before it opened and was shown this, it works on the basis that hydraulic locks at each end of the span open and retract. Leaving it with the clearance to rotate. Then it lifts up at the pier to do so.
