It seems that we are getting closer to Nuclear Fusion power,
I first saw that story on a BBC news segment.

How would our world change if it became a reality?

Would it effectively mean a collapse in the price of power.
with no fears over its scarcity?

    Would issues over over-population end.
Would the big oil companies collapse at least in share price.

Would it basically lead to a perfect world or could it have negative effects on the economy?

It will probably be ridiculously expensive to build and run fusion reactors at first. This provides time for it to be slowly phased in and run side-by-side with traditional forms of power generation, meaning that the demand for oil will reduce only gradually. Yes, when the reactors start coming online, oil will not be the place to be. But they won't provide all of our energy overnight and it will be a long, slow process to convert from fossil fuels to nuclear fusion. How will petrol cars be converted? How about the millions of homes with gas and oil powered central heating?

Car engines aren't suddenly going to start housing little fusion reactors, so oil prices won't need redecimalisation, but they will fall a bit no doubt. Even the idea of a fusion submarine or warship is an optimistic one, these things are going to be colossal, they'll take ginormous amounts of water to cool. Fair enough, I know computers went from being the size of houses to the size of your wallet, but there was a certain amount of time, experiment, trial and error involved. The same will be true of fusion reactors, hopefully without the error! :D
